Transformations for the Busy, Every Day Person

Visitors to the Amazing 12 transformation gallery often assume the before and after photos are of people with athletic backgrounds, or they are fitness models or that they have heaps of disposable time to dedicate to food preparation and gym time.

The reality is, every one of the people you see in the transformation gallery are everyday people, with jobs, families and other elements to their lives that take up time.

They are special people though. Each and every A12 participant has chosen to change their lifestyle and how they feel about themselves both physically and visually.

Some of these people had been going to the gym but never quite got the results, working very hard, maybe too hard, only to feel inadequate in their ability to get results. They believed it impossible for anyone to achieve significant natural gains in strength, muscle gain, fat loss, and cardiovascular conditioning simultaneously in ANY period of time– let alone in 12 weeks… until they graduated the Amazing 12.

What a client said about starting:

‘I needed to make changes in my life as I was not happy about the way I looked, and felt I did not represent the person I felt inside.’

And if you’re thinking about starting… ‘Go for it!!! You will definitely not regret it, it was not a hard program like you’d imagine and you will feel so much better for doing it.’ – Vivienne

If you’ve got the passion to change how you feel about yourself and want help and a realistic pain free program, book in NOW to discuss the details of the Amazing 12. I am building the 2022 list now, with the first participants starting January 10th.

Crawlebration

If you have difficulty with general movement, coordination, restrictions and perhaps some nagging pains and recurring injuries, maybe uneasy undertaking some tasks, it may be down to an out of use reflexive strength aka your Original Strength.

Not to worry, reflexive strength can be restored with some practice, especially with one movement!

‘Crawling can help you restore your original strength you were meant to have and unlock strength in many areas of your life.’

Not only will your physical strength and movement improve, your acuity will improve, your mood will boost and you’ll feel more capable and resilient to other physical demands of day-to-day life.

To quote Tim Anderson, co-founder of Original Strength, ‘it feels good to feel good’.

Throughout December I’d like to celebrate what crawling can give us with a festival of daily crawling.

FOLLOW MY BLOG TO JOIN THIS CELEBRATION

Each day I’ll share a short video blog or a ‘crawl vlog’ to demonstrate various crawling methods and levels to offer something for everyone, because e.v.e.r.y.o.n.e can benefit from crawling.

All I ask in return for my gift to you, is that you share the daily crawlvlog on social media, perhaps with the following hashtags for good measure, plus your own of course.

Choosing values vs acceptance

1. Do you value your fitness or accept weakness?

2. Do you value your health or accept illness?

3. Do you value choosing life or accept dilapidation?

You have endless opportunities every day, week and year to improve your fitness, your health and your lasting time on this earth.

If you consistently add to your fitness, health and quality of life, you will have no regrets, just satisfaction that you really are living the best life you can.

A Dad Bod Transformation

Hello there, Well it’s me Jamie, a trainer of 25 years and I love to exercise, stay strong and I Love food too. So, yes, I’m human!

However, it was easy to settle into a life of getting older and accepting an expanding waistline and hiding it under my baggy gym shirts.

Starting winter this year I thought it was time to take action and maybe set an example to others as we start to exit our pandemic lives. I studied hard and became a certified Amazing 12 coach, one of only a few in Australia and then I jumped into following the formulated 12-week program of very reasonable exercise and a simple, calculated nutrition plan that still allowed for a chill out eating day ‘every week’.

The Amazing 12 is regarded as the World #1 Total Body Transformation program that has transformed the lives and physiques of 10000+ people over the past 15 years.
The program requires commitment to just three 45 minute training sessions per week, a commitment to making some nutrition changes and a commitment to changing oneself for the better. It’s only 12 weeks!

I currently have a crew of 7 people undertaking the program, due to finish by Christmas.
Early 2022 I will be starting another wave of the Amazing 12.

Start 2026 the Smart Way

The new year sees a lot of people try to jump into their ‘new me’ with strength training or running etc, when their body actually needs some mobility first-off.  These are awesome goals, ones that I stand by and help my clients develop; but, if you’ve done no exercise over the past month, 6 months…

Do You Value Strength?

No one appreciates the values of strength until weakness becomes a reality of life. A straight-up statement but it’s based on the realities I see whenever someone decides to start training. I’ll hear some of the following… and you can fill in the blanks with any number of verbs. ‘I struggle with ____ing’. ‘I can’t…

The Only 5 Exercises You Need

For a Strong Life Over 50 Walk into any gym and you’ll see a multitude of ‘stuff’ happening. Stuff is an apt description! Some of it might look awesome, inspiring, frightening or downright weird! Is any or all of it a requirement for optimal or maximal physical health? Do you really need to do dozens…

Most Transformation Programs

And why the Amazing 12 is different

Most Transformation Programs!

Every single one of us has the capacity to change, to transform, to lose body fat and reshape our physique, strength and fitness. But why do so many people struggle to get the results despite working SO hard in the gym?

The Amazing 12 Program.

Unlike traditional fitness programs that do not deliver transformative physique and performance change (and then blame you or your genetics when they don’t), the Amazing 12 system optimises exercise techniques, the programming and nutrition, using a groundbreaking artificial intelligence version of the program creator Paul McIlroy. This is how certified trainers around the world deliver outstanding results for clients as if Paul himself was running the sessions!

The Old Way – Train to Failure

Most Transformation Programs:

❌No pain, no gain mentality – Leads to overtraining, injuries, and starting over.

❌ Training to failure – Tells your central nervous system that you’re a threat to yourself.

❌ Lifting to your max too often – This only finds limits, it doesn’t raise them.

❌ Success is directly proportional to effort – It’s not!

❌ You lack the will to succeed – You can’t use ‘will’ to change wrong to right.

❌ You’re not taking the right supplements – Success doesn’t come in a tub or a tablet.

❌ Push your limits until you break through them – You end up breaking yourself.

Our Way – Expand Your Comfort Zone

The Amazing 12 Program:

✅ Any pain = no gain – There is a direct correlation between time spent training in comfort and long term productivity.

✅ Train Sub-maximally – Expand your comfort zone and your max will take care of itself.

✅ Success is directly proportional to numeric progress – not the discomfort of a single workout.

✅ Unlock your amazing strength – It’s already there, you’re not building anything new.

✅ No need to EVER peak – Expand your comfort zone until it swallows your previous limits.

How do we build and maintain amazing transformations?

The Three key Optimisations

#1 Optimisation of Exercise Technique

You cannot sustain progress if your training injures you. Injuries will slow you down, impair your recovery or require time off. As a result you lose what you’ve gained, training momentum and motivation – hardly a recipe for success.

If you continue to still make the same technical errors (which are often extremely subtle), you just get hurt again. The cycle continues.

Rapid gains present with consistent safety, not off-technique, intensity and injury.

Strength and safety should be synonymous and optimal exercise technique should increase both strength and safety simultaneously.

As you progress, your technique must get refined to maximise strength acquisition – and that requires mastery of numerous overlooked subtleties.

We’ll show you step-by-step the optimal (and required) techniques and their subtleties to master each exercise and minimise risk of injury even as you progress through higher and higher strength levels.

#2 Optimisation of Nutrition

You also cannot progress if you find yourself in a battle with yourself (your inner superhero). The food you eat is very personal and if you battle through hunger or if your body craves something that’s missing, you will suffer needlessly. And then you’ll stop and eat what you want.

The stakes are higher when it comes to fitness programs because the diet versus exercise debate has traditionally accepted the view that “It’s 90% diet.” You’ll have to accept (often painful) limits or else you won’t progress.

But this is just the nutritional program equivalent of saying “No pain, no gain.”

We’ll teach you how the reality is this: “It’s 90% training.” At least when we are talking about a body TRANSFORMATION (more about this later).

Nutrition is crucial, BUT…it doesn’t have to be a battle! (In fact, it’s important that it’s not. The last thing you want is your central nervous system deciding you’re a threat and start to push back physiologically.)

We’ll show you how to optimise nutrition to avoid a battle and to get the transformations needed

#3 Exercise Programming

Great technique and great nutrition are not enough. For optimal results, you need optimal programming. And since the vast majority of people do not get results (and most fitness coaches fail to deliver results for their clients), something is clearly broken with fitness programming.

The problem is too many people think in terms of sets, reps, days … but 3×10, 6×6, 5×5, 8×8, 10×10, anything x anything, does not constitute effective strength / size programming.

And this problem is magnified because these sets and reps are geared to the accepted view of “no pain, no gain.” Breaking through your pain sounds great because we like the idea of pushing our limits and taking ourselves absolutely to the edge. It’s inspiring talk, but it’s no way to get long term results and is physiologically counter-productive.

The reality is “Any pain, no gain.”

Don’t speak the language of pop culture, speak the language your central nervous system understands. You have to discreetly hack the central nervous system to allow you to EXPAND the boundaries of your comfort zone. Only your inner superhero can do that and you have to know how it reasons to convince it. Once you do, you will perpetuate progress and your comfort zone will envelop your previous limits and make you stronger while transforming your physique.

If any or all of this strikes a chord with you, makes the hairs stand up, gets you excited and sets off your spidey senses, get in touch to see about signing up to the next wave of the Amazing 12 Brisbane.

… Next time – The 5 core components that produce dramatic physical transformations every time.

We Need Strength and Wellness

We live in a day of visual fixation. Instagram and other social media has made stars out of bodies, not people. Adoration keeps these money making machines in the news feed while actual heath and fitness professionals scratch their heads in bewilderment.

In the pre bodybuilding era of the 1930s to 1950s, people exercised to perform feats of strength, for their own entertainment and that of others. Spectators gleamed at their performance not just their physiques. These people lived healthy, balanced lives with real, physical jobs and families. Physical culture was a lifestyle not just a ways to claw at attention from those looking onwards.

You might not see much difference between then and now. Just people showing off their bodies. However, one element is missing today. Wellness.

Here’s something I dug up from the Guardian: link

‘According to a 2008 Journal of Health Psychology study, women reported an increased negative mood, depression and anxiety after only 30 minutes of viewing fitness magazines that promote an “athletic ideal”. Social media means you don’t have to buy a magazine to see these images; they’re in your newsfeed. The BMJ has identified exercise addiction as a growing problem, affecting up to 10% of the exercising population’.

What I’m writing here is not a bang on the modern fitness industry, or social media but it is my observation and that of my peers that something dire has happened in the last number of years. More and more people are turning to these (often unqualified) online, social media darlings for inspiration and exercise motivation. With the label of Personal Trainer I am (was) part of that group. To most people the identity or title of Personal Trainer does for the large part sum up an image of a muscly, loud motivator by means of administering ‘hurt’. But that’s not what I do. Yes, I know there are plenty of trainers who practice healthy exercise promotion, but we are few and far between.

I recently rejoined the instagram world after a 6 month break after finding myself feeling down and miserable, as I compared myself to the war zone of fitness information being broadcast. If it wasn’t another fitpro trying to sell me his or her 6 week program to making 7 figure $$$$ as a gym owner, it was the brigade of muscly dudes and dudettes making me feel physical inferior.

Coming back after my break I’ve blocked those feeds and prefer to share my healthier approach to becoming fitter, stronger and healthier.

And with that, I have rebranded FitStrong Personal Training to FitStrong Strength & Wellness.

FITSTRONG STRENGTH & WELLNESS Banner 2019

This has been a process of plentiful thought but after 22+ as a trainer I want to stick to my guns and promote the healthiest methods and practices to becoming fitter and stronger – just like the banner says!

Of course I’ll still be carrying out personal training, small group training, seniors classes and online training and such, but I will be actively promoting the other vital components that actually allow us to become fitter and stronger. I’ve written about them before but in short… here’s an infographic:

Fitness Map

Over the coming months I intend to write about each of these 5 areas (yellow boxes) in more detail to ‘map’ their position in an optimal lifestyle program of sorts. This will become the overarching drive of business going into the future and I am really excited to start into this new strategy.

My goal as a trainer is to help people. It really is that simple. What I identify as important is that we live well, with strength, agility and resilience, both physically and mentally.

Rather than following the tribe of social media stars I am going to start my own tribe and in the words of coach Dan John, the Goal is the keep the Goal the Goal.

the GOAL is to keep the GOAL the GOAL (1)

Best Training When Stressed!!!

I’ll never shy away from sharing my love of my family, especially my daughter. She’s the smart one who will support me in my old age, you know, spotting me when doing handstands.

Anyhow, this morning on our way to school she brought up the subject of stress and asked how people should exercise to manage stress. She’s got exams and homework and is starting to get exposed to the kind of baseline stress we all live with. I went on to explain how there is normal every day stress and then those times when we get too stressed, and then balanced off by anti-stress, the things that make us feel good or relaxed.

This got me thinking afterwards about all the times adults want to exercise out their life stresses – is this really the best way to deal with high stress situations?

Before watching the video, here are a few terms for you to read:

  • Baseline stress is all the average, everyday stress we live with and accept. Bills, work, stuck in traffic, cold, heat, regular exercise, the final moments of your weekly dose of Game of Thrones and the silly argument over who forgot to buy the beetroot and almond dip and stuff like that.
  • Stress and excess stress results in a hormonal response in the body that releases more cortisol and epinephrine – the stress hormones that fuel us for fight or flight. This is referred to the Sympathetic nervous system response.
  • Anti-stress or the opposite of high stress is relaxing, chilled out and happy. This is the Parasympathetic nervous system kicking in.

We need to have exposure to both of these to develop as fully capable humans. Indeed, without exercise stress we would not be able to progress, to get fitter, stronger and more intelligent. As a species we have thrived on a finely tuned balance of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.

However, when we expose ourselves to too much stress, things go wrong. We get sick. High stress exercise is the last thing we need to add to our lives when we are stressed. Whilst carrying out the basics of our normal exercise routine is fine, adding more exercise stress in the form of high intensity intervals can be a ticking time bomb on our physiology.

Adding relaxing, resetting practices to our exercise schedule is a must during periods of above baseline stress.

We choose the Original Strength movement system as a way to reset our bodies prior to training in the gym and on recovery days but if you like the idea of yoga, gentle walking or listening to your chilliest of your music collection, do that.

That’ll do me for today. I look forward to my daughters next question but if you have any questions or wonders, please do ask.

Jamie
